H2 Yacht Design is a London-based interior and exterior design studio specialising in superyachts, founded by Jonny Horsfield in 1994. With three decades of experience across new builds and refits, H2 has established itself as one of the most versatile and respected names in yacht design.
History & Founding
Jonny Horsfield established H2 in London in 1994, initially focusing almost exclusively on yacht refit projects. This grounding in refits gave the studio a uniquely broad experience — working to strict timeframes, across different design styles, and with varying budgets. During this period, H2 built an enviable reputation as the refit design experts within the yacht community.
As the studio's reputation grew, H2 expanded into new-build projects, working with leading shipyards on some of the most celebrated superyachts afloat. Today the studio handles both new builds and refits across the full size range.
Design Philosophy
H2 prides itself on having no "house style". Unlike many design studios that impose a recognisable aesthetic, H2 works in whatever style the client prefers — resulting in a wonderfully diverse portfolio. This approach is both stimulating for the designers and reassuring for clients who want something genuinely bespoke.
Every project begins with a detailed General Arrangement plan, developed alongside the exterior design to ensure seamless integration. From there, H2 develops interior concepts through 3D renders, material selections, and close collaboration with the owner.
Services
Interior design — from concept through to completion, including GA planning, 3D visualisation, material selection, and onsite supervision
Exterior design — hull and superstructure styling for new builds
Refit design — reconfiguring and restyling existing yachts
Bespoke furniture design — custom freestanding pieces developed with specialist subcontractors
Project management — regular yard liaison, progress reporting, and quality control throughout the build
Process
H2's process is methodical and client-centred. Initial discussions establish the owner's preferred style through a conversation about design influences and aesthetic direction. From there, the studio produces sketches, colour boards with selected materials (marbles, fabrics, hardware, carpets), and photo-realistic 3D renders of all major interior areas.
Detailed AutoCAD drawings cover every elevation, lighting arrangement, and architectural detail. H2 insists on approving all subcontractor workshop drawings before construction begins, ensuring the design intent is preserved through to delivery.
Studio & Team
Based in London, the H2 studio brings together a team of interior designers, 3D visualisers, and project managers. The team maintains close relationships with shipyards, owners' representatives, and specialist subcontractors worldwide.
Market Position
H2 sits among the elite tier of superyacht design studios globally. Their willingness to work without a signature style — combined with deep refit expertise and a reputation for precision — makes them a natural choice for owners and shipyards seeking design partners who listen first and create second.
After 30 years in the industry, H2 remains independently owned and creatively driven, with a client list that spans some of the most significant yachts built in the last three decades.
